The words “root canal” don’t always inspire happy, relaxing thoughts. When it comes to scary procedures, root canals are typically near the top of the list. But they aren’t all bad! Root canals are necessary to save your damaged tooth. It’s a preventive measure to avoid tooth extraction in the future.

Do you have a pesky tooth that may need a root canal? We’re here to help! Call Brookline Dental Esthetics today at 617-397-3958 for an appointment in Brookline, MA.

What’s a Root Canal?

Instead of removing a damaged or infected tooth entirely, a root canal is a procedure that allows your dentist to clean the inside of your tooth.

Inside each tooth in your mouth is a soft core, called the “pulp” of the tooth. Nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues live in the pulp. When your tooth has a cavity or other damage, harmful bacteria can enter the pulp. Decaying material, advanced by bacteria, can cause an infection that will affect that tooth. If left untreated, that bacteria can spread to other places in your mouth — which causes even more pain and damage down the road.

At Brookline Dental Esthetics, we’re here to help! Our caring in-house endodontist will walk you through the procedure. We know every patient has their own unique dental health. We’ll give you X-rays to get to the root — literally — of your damaged tooth. When it’s time for the procedure, we’ll give you a local anesthetic to keep the root canal as pain-free as possible. Using small dental instruments, we’ll remove the decayed or infected pulp.

While the words “root canal” can be scary, the procedure is no more painful than a filling. By getting rid of infection or damage through a root canal, you can avoid losing your tooth entirely!

I’m Still Anxious…

We understand. Root canals are often a big cause of dental anxiety for patients.

At Brookline Dental Esthetics, we have two in-house specialists: an endodontist and a periodontist.
