Restore Your Dental Health With Oral Surgical Procedures

One of the reasons patients don’t like the idea of surgery is they are afraid of possible pain or discomfort. However, dental surgery is what will get you out of pain or improve your smile’s function. And at our office you also have the option of receiving soothing oral sedation. You can also be certain that whatever treatment we recommend, it’s only for the betterment of your smile. We may perform:

  • Tooth Extractions – If an infection in your tooth puts other teeth at risk, we can gently remove the tooth and then replace it with a new restoration.
  • Wisdom Teeth Removal – If your third molars are coming in, we may need to remove them to help you avoid complications in the future.
  • Ridge Augmentation – We’ll restore the contours of your jaw and gumline where you’ve experienced tooth loss to prepare you to receive  implants or simply to improve your appearance.
  • Sinus Lift – If you are getting implants in your upper jaw, we can raise the sinus floor to give you more room for the implants.
  • Bone Grafting – This procedure will restore bone that has been lost in your jaw, to create a strong foundation for dental implants.
  • Gum Grafting – If you have significant gum recession, we can replace the  lost tissue using donated tissue or tissue from your own mouth.

If you need oral surgery in Brookline, call 617-397-3958 for an appointment. It’s our goal that you won’t have to travel to an outside oral surgeon when you visit our team! You can also schedule online.

Common Questions About Oral Surgery

When would I need oral surgery?

Some of the most common reasons you may need oral surgery are removing a tooth that is too damaged to save, extracting wisdom teeth that are painful or causing dental problems, removing teeth for dentures or other restorations, or preparing for dental implants with a bone graft or other procedure.

What can I eat after oral surgery?

We recommend that you eat soft foods and liquids for two or three days after your surgery. Yogurt, soup, pudding, ice cream, and protein shakes are all good choices. It’s a good idea to avoid spicy foods, acidic foods, crunchy foods, and tough-to-chew foods for a week or so.

How can I prepare for oral surgery?

You’ll need to avoid smoking for at least 12 hours prior to oral surgery (and 24 hours after). We perform most oral surgeries using only local anesthesia, so you’ll be able to enjoy a light meal several hours beforehand. We’ll give you more specific instructions. It’s a good idea to take off work or school for at least a day or two, depending on the kind of surgery you receive.
