It’s hard to believe it, but summer is almost upon us! Whether you are planning on taking a vacation or just want to beat the heat, maintaining good oral health is still important. In today’s post, we’re sharing ways you can have a healthy smile all season long.

  1. Avoid sugary beverages.

As refreshing as an ice-cold soda or sweet tea sounds, too much sugar is bad for your teeth. It blends in with the bacteria in your mouth and increases your risk for cavities. Instead, sip iced water throughout the day. Add citrus fruits if you need a bit of flavor to enjoy your water.

  1. Follow pool safety guidelines.

Even if the pool is in your own backyard, make sure you and your family play safely near the pool. One fall near the poolside can easily crack or knock out a tooth.

  1. Wear a mouthguard, if you play sports.

If you are into summer sports, wear a mouthguard. High-contact sports can lead to mouth injury and require expensive restorations unless you are careful. Fortunately, we can custom-make one just for you! It will fit better and last longer than store-bought ones.

  1. Maintain oral hygiene habits.

If you have a child on summer break, it’s not as easy to keep up with regular oral care habits. However, make it a point to encourage the routine. If they need extra inspiration, consider giving them a calendar to track the habit. Then, after a certain number of days, give them a prize.

  1. Schedule a checkup.

If you haven’t had your regular dental checkup, the summer is a great time to schedule it. We’ll give you and your whole crew a thorough cleaning and exam.
